Who’s taking part in the Hydrogen Zone?

Throughout September, students can connect with scientists in the Hydrogen Zone. Students can Ask questions, Chat to them, and Vote for their favourite to win a £500 prize for more outreach activities. The scientists are working on lots of different and exciting things. A message from June’s winner

The Psychology Zone ran for 6 weeks over June and July 2021. It was funded by the British Psychological Society, and featured 19 psychologists. 476 school students logged in, from 18 schools across the UK. They connected with the psychologists in live Chats and by asking questions. During the activity, students voted for their favourite psychologist. The Winner of May’s Orange Zone

The Orange Zone ran for 4 weeks in May 2021. It was funded by the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Science and Technologies Facilities Council, and featured 29 scientists working across a broad range of fields. Over the month, 865 students logged in from across the UK. During the activity students voted for their favourite scientist. At the end of the Zone, the scientist with the most votes was Emma Yhnell. As winner, Emma gets £500 to spend on further public engagement projects. A word from the Red Zone winner 🍾🎉

The Red Zone ran for 3 weeks in April 2021. It featured 28 scientists working in lots of different fields, from neuroscience, to pharmacology, to condensed matter physics. 725 students from across the UK logged in to connect with the scientists. During the Zone, students voted for their favourite scientist. At the end, the scientist with the most votes was Kip Heath. As winner, she gets £500 to spend on further public engagement projects. March 2021 winners 🥇

In March 2021, we ran 3 Zones in I’m a Scientist, Get me out of here.

Each ran for 4 weeks, from 1 to 26 March.

Throughout the month students voted for their favourite scientist. At the end of each Zone, the scientist with the most votes was crowned the winner. They will receive £500 to spend on further public engagement activities.


The Pink Zone was part-funded by the Science and Technologies Facilities Council (STFC).

It featured 27 scientists from a broad range of fields. 5 of these were either funded by STFC, or worked at, or used data from, an STFC facility.
