Welcome back to I’m a Scientist…. We have kicked off this year with the Pandemic Prevention Zone 🦠 So far we have had 43 Live Chats with 39 different scientists! Inquisitive and engaged students have been asking the scientists questions about the pandemic, other scary viruses and even their star signs! Check out some of these moments from the Live Chats: Over 170 excellent ASK follow up questions have also been submitted! It has been really interesting reading the profiles of all the scientists that are taking part in this Zone! The Psychology Zone ran for 6 weeks over June and July 2021. It was funded by the British Psychological Society, and featured 19 psychologists. 476 school students logged in, from 18 schools across the UK. They connected with the psychologists in live Chats and by asking questions. During the activity, students voted for their favourite psychologist. At the end of the Zone, the psychologist with the most votes was… 🏆 John Shaw – Lecturer in Sleep Psychology at De Montfort University As winner, John gets £500 to spend on further public engagement projects. The Orange Zone ran for 4 weeks in May 2021. It was funded by the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Science and Technologies Facilities Council, and featured 29 scientists working across a broad range of fields. Over the month, 865 students logged in from across the UK. During the activity students voted for their favourite scientist. At the end of the Zone, the scientist with the most votes was Emma Yhnell. As winner, Emma gets £500 to spend on further public engagement projects.
