Students at schools around the UK, from Kent to Dundee to Antrim, joined us in celebrating Chemistry Week this year. Thank you to everyone who got involved! Here’s a quick rundown of how the week went…

🧮 Chemistry Week by the numbers

Across 18 Chats, over 250 students from 14 different schools explored how chemistry shapes the world around them. 41 scientists using chemistry in their everyday work took part, to connect with classes from Year 5 to post-16.

William Lovell Church of England Academy, City of London Academy, and Milton Keynes college all took part with multiple classes. Their students connected with a wide range of scientists, including Katy, who joined an impressive 6 Chats during the week!

💬 Conversations that showed chemistry in action

Chemistry Week’s theme for 2025 was ‘chemistry in action’ – there was plenty of action in the week’s Chats!

Lots of students were curious about the real-life impacts that people’s work has. They wanted to understand how chemistry supports real action like reducing pollution, developing medicines, creating new materials, investigating crimes, and facing sustainability challenges.

🙋 Personalised answers, insights, and advice

Across the week, students were just as interested in the scientists’ routes into chemistry, and what their day-to-day work is really like. Many conversations explored career decisions, choosing between subjects, and coping when things don’t go to plan.

Scientist Hannah turned the tables and asked the students some questions too. That sparked conversation where students and scientists joined in to discuss classroom experiments.
