GM foods have been hitting the headlines again recently. Debate has become argument and positions have become entrenched leaving it hard sometimes to work out the facts, and what’s relevant. I’m a Scientist, GM Food allows you to put your questions to a range of people with knowledge about the issues and hear all the angles on something that may be central to the future of how we feed ourselves.
The Zone will open on Monday 18th June for members of the public to pose their questions.
Today we are asking you to help us choose the experts by nominating who you think should be participating.
We’re looking for a range of people: plant geneticists, ecologists, food security policy experts, development specialists. We want people who support GM Food. We want people who oppose it. We want people who lie in between. Please use the form below to suggest who you think should be involved. Feel free to nominate yourself.
We’re pulling together an advisory panel who will help us decide on the final five and we aim to make that decision on Monday 11th June. A very short FAQ is available.
UPDATE: Getting the right experts and the right balance of experts is crucial for this event. Unfortunately on Monday we hadn’t got final agreeement from the Advisory Panel on who should be the six experts. Some of this is about availability of the first choice experts, some is down to the overall composition of the group and some is about just finding the right people.
We are going to delay the start of the event by a week in order to give us time to find the right people and to give them time to write a profile before the questions start. It will now start on Monday June 25th.
UPDATE 2:
We’ve now selected the group of experts: https://gmfood.imascientist.org.uk/experts/ so no more nominations please. Thank you to everyone who did.
