What’s new for teachers this November

We are always looking for ways to make our activities easier for you to take part in with your classes. As you started your school year, we’ve been busy making a few changes in time for November.

Student login stickers

Previously, we’ve provided student login details for each class in the form of login cards. Due to the likelihood of students forgetting or misplacing their cards, these are often used in lessons and collected up before students leave. We would love to encourage even more students and their families to get involved with the extra live chats each Thursday evening during the activity, so this November we have sent out student login STICKERS!

These can be stuck in students’ planners or exercise books for use both in lessons and at home.

Student profiles

Students who take part in the event have their own profile pages, which they can personalise by answering questions about their favourite things about science, their dream job, and what they think is the best invention ever.

We’re interested in how students’ perceptions of scientists change over the course of the activity. We’ve added a new section to the students’ profiles, asking them to pick 3 words they would use to describe scientists or engineers.

Please encourage your students to select their words each time you have a lesson on the activity, as we will be tracking if and how these change over the course of the two weeks.

New teacher cards

We love it when a teacher taking part introduces their colleagues to the activities.

To make things easier for your colleagues to run the activity without using your account, we’ve added an option to register their own account using the link found in the Teacher Packs – meaning you don’t have to share your login details in order for them to be involved.

Clearer forms

Our forms have had a slight redesign to make them clearer and more user-friendly. Previously, boxes or drop-down lists on our site were grey, which can make it seem as though you can’t add an entry, because it is “greyed out”.

The updated forms feature white boxes with a border, to hopefully make it clearer that the form is active. Changes like these are rarely noticed, but make things much more accessible for all users.

Chat booking calendar – days of the week

Whilst we’re on the topic of chat booking forms, we have also added the days of the week to each bookable date to help you easily find the day of your lesson.

If you are taking part this November, don’t forget to send us your feedback – you’ll get a survey to fill in at the end of the activity. You can also contact us at jen@mangorol.la
