RCUK scientist application

I’m a Scientist is an online event where students get to meet and interact with real scientists. It’s an X Factor-style competition between the scientists, where students are the judges.

The RCUK Energy programme is providing research towards low-carbon, safe, secure energy supplies for the future. We are excited to be sponsoring the Energy Zone and encourage researchers funded by us to get involved.

You interact online with school students, answering their questions about science, research, and just about everything else. You also listen to students’ opinions on science and get them thinking about how science and genomics affects their daily lives.

Before you apply, take a look at our advice on filling out the registration form, including writing the all important one sentence summary of your work. We ask teachers and students to rate the one sentence summaries and use this to select the 5 scientists to take part in the Energy Zone. We’ll select the scientists to take part and let you know at the start of February.

  1. The 13/14 year old students are from all across the ability range, and prefer it if you use language they understand: deadly not pathogenic, find not identify, use not utilize.
  2. Use imaginative language to describe your work, to grab the students’ attention by giving a real sense of what your work involves.
  3. Show your one sentence desciption to someone else - not a scientist working in your field!

Apply here if you are interested in taking part in the RCUK Energy Programme sponsored Energy Zone in I’m a Scientist from 12th-23rd March 2012.
